UDHR 2
Article 2.
Everyone is entitled to all the rights and freedoms set forth in this Declaration.
We seldom think of this article in relations to our own country – and somehow we also choose to decide that certain people is not included in “everyone”.Take for instance convicted felons in the US – they don’t have right to vote, nor do they have the right to privacy – both these things are clear violations of the UDHR, which the US has agreed to practice and uphold. Then of course there’s the obvious violations going on all over the world, in Iran, Israel, Iraq, China, Sudan, Egypt, Sweden, Denmark…But…Human rights are something you are born with – just because you are born and human – they are not given, nor can they be taken away – they ARE if there ever was such a thing – an ABSOLUTE. They are not priviliges to be bestowed, they are and have always been a human entitlement.
“if we start haggling with human rights we end up in a society where the only one having any human rights is the one who has deprived everybody else of theirs.”
