From a Blog: Spiritual Daleks and Borg in real life

Posted by Henric C. Jensen on July 14, 2007

“We are the Daleks! Exterminate all humans! Exterminate the Doctor! Exterminate!!!” “We are the Borg. Resitance is futile. Your cultural and biological distinctiveness will be added to our own. Prepare to be assimilated.Sure, one may dismiss the Daleks of Doctor Who and the Borg of Star Trek as fiction, but isn’t it obvious that they are really symbols of racism and other forms of intolerance, including religious bigotry? Christian fundamentalists naturally favor a world in which there are only Christians like themselves, so they seek to “convert” others to their point of view, and when they fail to do so, they label anyone who disagrees with them as enemies. The Muslims of terrorist groups like Al-Qaeda are much the same.

If we see the Daleks and Borg as evil, why not the spiritual Daleks and Borg in the real world?” (Dale Husband’s Blog: Spiritual Daleks and Borg in real life)

My Comment:

“If we see the Daleks and Borg as evil, why not the spiritual Daleks and Borg in the real world?”

I think we do, Dale. I know I do.

There are plenty of resistance out there – the problem is that we, in the Western World, have lived with the equivalent of the Daleks and the Borgs for 2000 years, and are conditioned to think in the manner of Daleks and Borgs – not in any really big ways, but our entire Society is permeated in Dalek and Borg Doctrine, it takes time to break free, and most people don’t even see it as a problem.

They have been taught that Dalek and Borg values are the only GOOD ones – that in fact you cannot be a good person unless you are Dalek or Borg.

Look around you – every bigger holiday is based in Dalek or Borg doctrine, and reaches into every crevasse and corner of Society – it takes a lot to SEE and to resist – especially if that is all you know.

Continued Comment:

I believe any Fundamentalism is inherently evil, because it demands blind faith and forbids free individual thinking – this goes for any Fundamentalism, Muslim, Xtian, Jewish, Hindu…

If Western Society is permeated in Xtian Doctrine, then Near Eastern Society is permeated in Muslim Doctrine – and as soon as you have DOCTRINE, you have the potential for Fundamentalism.

What’s worse – as I said above – if a Doctrine has been around long enough it tend to be pretty much internalized. Even people who normally wouldn’t call themselves Xtian celebrate Xmas, with all the basic trimmings. I am pretty sure the same is true for Muslims and Ramadan or Jews and Chanukah.

This doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t resist – it only means that it’s not like deciding not to eat meat or buy Proctor and Gamble products – it’s a matter of resisting a mind-set that has been bred into us from the day we were born.

I don’t begrudge the Xtians, Muslims or Jews their holidays or their beliefs – I am Jewish, and religious at that – but I don’t like the way religious belief has overrun Society. I think Society needs to be strictly secular. With room for all beliefs to be celebrated on equal footing. After all, religious freedom not only guarantees the right to practice any religion in peace, but also the right NOT to practice any religion at all.

We seem to have forgotten this important detail.

Jude, Kike…

Posted by Henric C. Jensen on July 14, 2007

Jude

The words don’t bother me – the association does – the past experiences of violence – the times I’ve had to flee from gangs of young men screaming, yelling that word, threatening to beat me, rape my wife and kill my dog…that’s what ran through my mind today as I heard yet another throng of young adults yell that word “Jude” as I went to the yard with my dog and wife.

And I know that they are taught this at home, in the church, in the youth club…just a few weeks ago a middle aged man yelled that after me when I tried to cross the street out-side my house and happened to get in the way of his car (in a place where cars HAVE to give way to pedestrians) and threatened to kill me next time he sees me.

No, the words don’t bother me – but the threats inherent behind them do.

UDHR Article 2

Posted by Henric C. Jensen on July 14, 2007

Article 2.
Everyone is entitled to all the rights and freedoms set forth in this Declaration.

We seldom think of this article in relations to our own country – and somehow we also choose to decide that certain people is not included in “everyone”.Take for instance convicted felons in the US – they don’t have right to vote, nor do they have the right to privacy – both these things are clear violations of the UDHR, which the US has agreed to practice and uphold. Then of course there’s the obvious violations going on all over the world, in Iran, Israel, Iraq, China, Sudan, Egypt, Sweden, Denmark…But…Human rights are something you are born with – just because you are born and human – they are not given, nor can they be taken away – they ARE if there ever was such a thing – an ABSOLUTE. They are not priviliges to be bestowed, they are and have always been a human entitlement.

“if we start haggling with human rights we end up in a society where the only one having any human rights is the one who has deprived everybody else of theirs.”

UDHR Article 1

Posted by Henric C. Jensen on July 14, 2007

Article 1.
All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights.

I think we all agree on this, but what does it mean? It means that all people are the same, have the same worth, same rights and same responsibilities to live up to this article.

I mentioned responsibility. That means that if I claim this right for myself I have to extend the same right to others. I cannot say that some people do not have those rights, because to so would be to denounce the responsibility that automatically comes with this Article.

It also means that those rights are something we are born with – they cannot be removed, not even if I myself violate them or deny them to others. They are my Birth Right as a Human Being. I have them simply because I am Human and born. This is the closest to G-d, Secular Humanism comes in terms of Absoluteness.

Xtians Disgrace themselves – Again…

Posted by Henric C. Jensen on July 14, 2007

“I’m sure the three individuals who protested the prayer delivered by Rajan Zed, a Hindu chaplain from Nevada, to open the Senate on July 12th thought they were “defending their faith” but in reality, they were simply letting their bigotry and intolerance show.” Standing for Jesus or Demonstrating Bigotry?

“Theology has moved from the church house onto the floor of the United States Senate, and has been arrested.Ante Pavkovic, Kathy Pavkovic, and Kristen Sugar were all arrested in the chambers of the United States Senate as that chamber was violated by a false Hindu god. The Senate was opened with a Hindu prayer placing the false god of Hinduism on a level playing field with the One True God, Jesus Christ. This would never have been allowed by our Founding Fathers.

“Not one Senator had the backbone to stand as our Founding Fathers stood. They stood on the Gospel of Jesus Christ! There were three in the audience with the courage to stand and proclaim, ‘Thou shalt have no other gods before me.’ They were immediately removed from the chambers, arrested, and are in jail now. God bless those who stand for Jesus as we know that He stands for them.” Rev. Flip Benham, Director, Operation Save America/Operation Rescue” Theology Moved To The Senate And Was Arrested.

I am so glad I am not a Xtian, of any denomination, but especially Fundamentalist Evangelical. I was once. And I recognize this MO so well. The Fundamentalist mind that cannot fathom any other way of living than its own, cannot fathom the diversity of life and belief on this planet. That has only ONE path of thought, and any perceived diversion from that is satanical.

It doesn’t seem to cross their minds that perhaps this kind of behavior is not conducive to their message. Oh they are very proud of themselves after doing something like this, just read: What happens when Senators won’t stand? Gentle Xtians must!

Martyrs, prophets, witnesses…martyrs for their own stupidity and arrogance, prophets of a hatred and intolerance that reek to High Heaven and witnesses for a belief that is so narrow minded, hypocritical and bigot that it’s up their own arses having lunch.
