I view Ehren Watada as a hero for conscience and ethics and morality. As a CO and Christian pacifist myself, I do say he is a good example of what being a conscientious objector means.
I applaud his courage and his stand for peace and against war.

Where ‘helping your neighbor by paying taxes’ is considered communism and ‘might is right’ is the personal and public creed and where the color of your skin, your yearly income and ‘fame’ either buys you the right to vote or excludes you from society all together. How can they be other than stupid, they are raised to think that being stupid is smart and evil is good, that if you convince enough people that you are right through threats, terror and name-calling, you must naturally be right.”

That is so much my experience that it’s scary… “Appearances is everything”, “trust no-one” and “YOU don’t tell ME anything!” mentality… In Dale Carnegie’s “How to Win Friends and Gain Influence” Dale tells a story from the youth of Benjamin Franklin… the words could be said to most of the USonians, but the most of the USonians are not as smart as Ben Franklin…

“One day, when Ben Franklin was a blundering youth, an old Quaker friend took him aside and lashed him with a few stinging truths, something like this:

Ben, you are impossible. Your opinions have a slap in them for everyone who differs with you. They have become so offensive that nobody cares for them. Your friends find they enjoy themselves
better when you are not around. You know so much that no man can tell you anything. Indeed, no man is going to try, for the effort would lead only to discomfort and hard work. So you are not likely ever to know any more than you do now, which is very little.”

I suppose one of the problems is that
a) a USonian is NEVER wrong and
b) a USonian ALWAYS have “friends” who will “support” him/her in this belief.
So – if you say that to a USonian, you will hear that you are nasty, evil, badmouthing and namecalling him/her, and you may consider yourself lucky if that is where it stops.
“The effort would lead only to discomfort”. :->

Hey, I really enjoy your blog. I have a blog too in a totally unrelated field but I like to check in here on a regular basis, just to see what’s going on and it’s always interesting to say the least. It’s always entertaining what people have to say.
